Our story:

The story of our small family business starts here. Searching for adventure and a better way of life our quest led to the oil fields of North Dakota. Some may consider North Dakota 2010 the modern-day gold rush and everything you may have heard to be true. North Dakota also happens to be the place Lewis and Clark would meet Sacagawea. In 1804 she would then lead them on an incredible journey across the Rockies to the Pacific Ocean. After the oil fields slowed to the point of stopping we were once again on a quest. This time we would follow the Lewis and Clark trail to Astoria, Oregon. Always fascinated by the history of our surroundings, we would absorb all the information we could about this famous coastal town. Astoria would be the place Lewis and Clark traveled to and found the mouth of the Columbia and the Pacific Ocean.

In 1806 Lewis and Clark would head back on the trail they had blazed, and give their findings to Thomas Jefferson. Thomas had a friend in John Jacob Astor, who already had a very successful fur trading business. Between the two, they devised a plan to send two parties to the Pacific Ocean to establish a fort and trading post. A ship would sling shot around South America to the mouth of the Columbia and an overland party to settle and claim this portion of land as the United States. That ship was named the Tonquin. Just like the Tonquin, we want to establish a global trade with the greatest hiking gear and apparel on the market. With technology, innovation, and creative thinkers striving for excellence, Tonquin Trading will be the premiere active lifestyle connection.
